Biography

Hola!  My name is Susie Hernandez Hiigel.  I am originally from El Paso, Texas.  I have two wonderful sons and two beautiful grandchildren (what can I say).  I have a wonderful husband, who is doing so much better (Thank you God) after so many "back" surgeries.  I come from a large family of 6 brothers and 2 sisters. My beautiful parents were married for 50 years; when my father went to be with the Lord and my mother, shortly followed. They are my two most beautiful guardian angels.

I was informed by my husband, 4 years ago, that we were going to Kerrville to retire.  I honestly did not know this gorgeous 'hill country' existed; therefore, I told him I was going to miss him so much!  But, here I am, loving my beautiful new friends/family.  God had better plans for me. :)

I have been an educator for 33 years.  My degrees are in: Secondary Biology, Elementary-Middle School Mathematics, All Level Health, and Masters in Education and Administration.  I have taught students from 6th grade to Seniors in high school. I was also an assistant principal for 1 year before I came to Kerrville.

I am so blessed to be teaching here, in Notre Dame Catholic School. I did ask God to please help me find employment in the education field here and HE DID! That's when I retired from public school. It was truly a "Calling".  I was blessed to be Teacher of The Year, 2012-2013; and I was one of nine Notre Dame Teachers of the Month by 'Newspapers in Education' in January of 2014.

I also belong to the A.C.T.S. Community, which I was so blessed in being on team, here in Kerrville, this last spring.

I truly enjoy being a teacher for 'God's Glory'. My favorite bible verse is: "No Weapons Formed Against Us Shall Prosper. Isaiah 54:17

I pray that we have a wonderful and blessed new school year.

Blessings Always,

Mrs. H.:)
